(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team will host Upper Iowa and Winona State this weekend to close out the 2010 regular season. UMC hosts Upper Iowa on Friday, November 12 for Parent's Night and Winona State on Saturday, November 13 for Senior Night. Game times are set for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
Minnesota, Crookston: The Golden Eagle Volleyball team was led over the weekend by the duo of Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, Sr, Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, So, Rochester, Mich.) who had nine kills each. Krikke also led UMC with a .333 (9K-1E-24TA) attack percentage and six block assists. Shannon Cologna (S, 5-8, Sr, Peoria, Ariz.) and Kelsey Matykowski (S, 5-7, So., Sun Prairie, Wis.) split the setting duties for the two matches. Cologna finished with 20 assists while Matykowski closed out the weekend with 15. Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) led the defensive core with 21 defensive digs, a 3.50 dig/set average.
Upper Iowa: In UIU's loss to Augustana Sara Vance recorded 13 kills and 7 digs, while Skylar Lesan handed out 29 assists to lead the Peacocks. On Saturday, Upper Iowa took #4 Wayne State to 4 sets in their upset bid. Nicky Brown led the way in the team's final home match tallying 23 kills while Melanie Behnke chipped in 10. Upper Iowa will close out the 2010 season this weekend when they visit Minnesota, Crookston and MSU Moorhead.
Winona State: Bekah Saugen, OH, Fr., Chaska, MN (Chaska) Saugen led the Warriors offensively in both their games last weekend, netting 15 kills against Wayne State on Friday and another seven kills against Augustana. She recorded a double-double against Wayne State by getting 10 digs. She was in double digits in digs against Augustana also with 12 digs. Shannon McGowan, DS, Jr., Naperville, IL (Nequa Valley) McGowan led the WSU defensive effort against Wayne State and Augustana, recording 41 digs in the two games. She had 31 digs in the match against Wayne State to lead the team. Kayla Uhlenhake, S, Fr., Burlington, WI (Burlington) Uhlenhake had 57 assists in matches against Wayne State and Augustana. Uhlenhake had 39 assists against Augustana and averaged 9.5 assists per set for the Warriors.
