(Grand Forks, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team took on its second NCAA Division I opponent in the University of North Dakota on Friday night at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on the UND campus. After four minutes without a basket from either end, Katie Houdek put the first bucket in to give UND the 2-0 lead. The Sioux were able to build an 8-0 advantage before Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) hit the first basket for UMC, a three-pointer, to pull the Golden Eagles within five. UND responded and extended the lead to 15 points and took a 31-11 lead into halftime. Minnesota, Crookston came out in the second half and shot 35.7% from the field after shooting 11.5% in the first half. UMC earned 27 second half points and shot an outstanding 83.3% from the free-throw line in the 71-38 exhibition loss.
Minnesota, Crookston was led by the trio of Annessa Hicks (G, 5-2, Fr., St. Paul, Minn.), Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) who earned six points each. Zelinsky led the team in rebounds with seven while Hicks led the team in assists with three and Jaroszewski led the squad in blocked shots with two.
UND was led by Allyssa Wall who scored a game-high 17 points. Mallory Youngblut led all players with 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards and dished a game-high six assists.
Minnesota, Crookston returns to the court on Sunday, November 7 as the Golden Eagles travel to the University of Minnesota to take on Coach Roysland's daughter Kelly who is an assistant with the Gophers. Game time for the final exhibition game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
