(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston volleyball team played host to Bemidji State University who entered play with a record of 7-3 overall and 1-1 in NSIC competition. The Golden Eagles played a close in the first set, but lost 25-22. BSU took the final two sets 25-17, 25-16 for the three set victory.
Katie Miedtke (MH, 5-10, Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) led the way for the Golden Eagles on offense with 10 kills and an attack percentage of .500 (10K-2E-16TA). Shannon Cologna (S, 5-8, Sr., Peoria, Ariz.) handled the setter duties with 21 assists. Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, So., Burlington, Wis.) tied a match-high with 14 defensive digs and Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) recorded 13 digs at the libero position.
Bemidji State was led by Nicole Olson and Kimberly Hacker who had 14 and 11 kills respectively. Olson led BSU in attack percentage with an outstanding .684 (14K-1E-19TA). Jessi-Beth McCannell did the setting for BSU and finished with a match-high 41 assists out of the 48 total kills for the Beavers. Brie Groskreutz tied UMC's Rueter with 14 defensive digs in the match.
The Golden Eagles are 0-11 overall and 0-3 in NSIC play. Bemidji State improves to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston hits the road again as they travel to Concordia-St. Paul and St. Cloud State on September 24 and 25. The Golden Eagles open with the Golden Bears at 7 p.m. on Friday and close out with the Huskies on Saturday at 4 p.m.
