Golden Eagles Can't Stop Bulldog Winning Streak

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston volleyball team opened the home conference season against the #4 ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. UMD entered the contest 9-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play and had only lost four sets all season. The Golden Eagles took the Bulldogs to the wire in the third set but fell 25-22 and lost in three sets 25-16, 25-12, 25-22.

Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, Sr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, So., Burlington, Wis.) led the Golden Eagle offense with four kills each. Krikke also led all players with three solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Kelsey Matykowski (S, 5-7, So., Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Shannon Cologna (S, 5-8, Sr., Peoria, Ariz.) shared the setter duties and tallied nine and seven assists respectively. Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, Fr., Rochester, Minn.) tied a match-high with 15 defensive digs at the libero position.

Minnesota Duluth was led by Alyssa Nelson and Jamie Lakatos who had 11 and 10 kills each. Lakatos also led the Bulldogs in attack percentage at .444 (10K-2E-18TA). Eleena Iisakka did the setting for UMD and finished with a match-high 40 assists out of the 43 total kills. Kate Lange tallied three service aces and Allison Fanta tied UMC's Wiesner with 15 defensive digs.

The Golden Eagles are 0-10 overall and 0-2 in NSIC play. The Bulldogs advance to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in conference action. UMC returns to the court tomorrow to take on Bemidji State. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
