(Crookston, Minn.)- The 25th ranked University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Women's Soccer team opened up a 2-0 lead in the first half and went on to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-0 today in Duluth, Minn. It was the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opener for both squads.
The Bulldogs got on the board at 9:29 of the game when Dani Potter scored on a breakaway off an assist from Becky Anderson. UMD increased their lead to 2-0 at 25:56 when Anderson scored off a header. She was assisted by Lauren Graydon and Maria Leider. Mallory Fox closed out the scoring at 84:57 with a goal off a penalty kick.
Hannah Bengston recorded one save and the shutout. Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded 14 saves for the Golden Eagles who were outshot 17-1 on goal and 23-3 overall.
The University of Minnesota Duluth improves to 1-2-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston falls to 0-4-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action on Sunday, September 19 when they travel to Bemidji State University. The match begins at 1 p.m.
