(Crookston, Minn.)- Minnesota State University (MSU) exploded for five first half goals en route to a 7-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Soccer victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston today in Mankato, Minn.
The Mavericks wasted little time getting on the board as Laura Leber took a pass from Nicole Dooher at 1:04 of the game to put MSU up 1-0. The Golden Eagles responded quickly as Ashley Sletten (So, F, Glenwood, Minn.) scored off an assist from Brittany Taylor (Fr, F, Noblesville, Ind.) at 1:32 to make the score 1-1.
Things remained the same until 14:10 when Leber scored an unassisted goal. Leber scored her third goal of the game at 21:18 to make the score 3-1 in favor of MSU. At 25:25, Ann Kincaid scored an unassisted goal as the Maverick lead swelled to 4-1. Kincaid made it 5-1 at 40:29 off assists from Sydney Temple and Ashley Sykora.
The second half saw MSU tack on two more goals to take the 7-1 victory. Dooher scored off assists from Sarah Schellinger and Brianne West at 57:14. Lianna Morrow closed out the scoring at 77:37 off assists from Courtney Vallarelli and Makayla Grady.
Minnesota State University improves to 8-4-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-10-2 overall and 1-7-0 in the NSIC.
U of M, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Sunday, October 17 when they face Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. The match begins at 1 p.m.
