(Crookston, Minn.)- Northern State University raced out to a 24-0 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a 38-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston today at Ed Widseth Field in Crookston, Minn.
The Wolves put 14 points on the board in the first quarter starting with Matt Anderson's six yard touchdown reception from Joei Fiegler at 9:48. The extra point from Thomas Parrott was good. Chad Morrison made the score 13-0 with a one yard plunge at 5:38. Parrott's kick made the score 14-0.
Parrott put Northern State University up 17-0 with a strong 43 yard field goal at 13:39 of the second quarter. Morrison scored his second touchdown of the day, another one yard plunge, with 1:24 remaining in the half. Parrott's extra point made the score 24-0 in favor of the Wolves.
Nick Wanner scored off a five yard run with 1:13 remaining in the third quarter. Parrott's extra point made the score 31-0. Northern State University closed out the scoring as Morrison capped off a stellar day with a nine yard run for his third touchdown. Felipe Alfaia's extra point made the final score 38-0 in favor of the Wolves.
Matt Anderson led Northern State University's rushing attack with 17 carries for 89 yards. Quarterback Joei Fiegler was 11-16 in the air for 110 yards and one touchdown.
U of M, Crookston was led by Keith McBride (So, RB, Lodi, Wis.) who had 15 carries for 104 yards.
The Wolves up their overall record to 1-6 and NSIC record to 1-5. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-6 overall and 0-6 in the NSIC.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Saturday, October 23 when they travel to St. Cloud State University. Kick-off against the Huskies is set for 1 p.m.
