Golden Eagle Football Closes Out 2010 Season at Bemidji State

(Bemidji, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football team closed out the 2010 season today at Bemidji State University. The Golden Eagles also said goodbye to five seniors. Lon Garfield (QB, 6-2, 215, Sr, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands), Tim Ennis (QB, 6-2, 210, Sr, Lancaster, Calif.), Cody Brekken (DB, 5-11, 185, Sr, Crookston, Minn.), Antonio Williams (WR, 6-2, 220, Sr, West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Chris Clay (TE, 6-6, 220, Sr, Ypsilanti, Mich.) each played their final game in maroon and gold. Ennis currently ranks second in Golden Eagle Football history in pass attempts, pass completions and passing yards. Brekken accumulated 159 total tackles good for seventh in UMC football history.

Bemidji State also closed out the 2010 season with a 45-3 victory over Minnesota, Crookston. After taking a 14-3 lead into the half, the Beavers scored 31 unanswered points to take the NSIC victory.

The Golden Eagles were led by Ennis who completed 10 passes for 117 yards. Keith McBride (RB, 5-11, 195, So, Lodi, Wis.) rushed 15 times for 57 yards and a long of 17 yards. Payton Kujava (WR, 5-10, 160, Fr, Ada, Minn.) caught four passes for UMC for 46 yards with a long of 19 yards. Cecil Brown (DB, 5-10, 205, So, Edison, Ga.) led the UMC defense with a game-high 13 total tackles (5 solo, 8 assisted). Brekken finished the game with nine total tackles.

Bemidji State was led by Steven Battle who rushed 15 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns and averaged 7.8 yards per rush. Quarterback Derek Edholm completed 13 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Schultz caught five passes for 49 yards. Cory Crosby and Andrew Eagan led the BSU defense with eight tackles each.

The Golden Eagles are 1-10 overall and 0-10 in NSIC play. Bemidji State advances to 7-4 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
