Golden Eagles Dominate Lions in Season Opener

Tyson_Laurie10.jpg(Hancock, Mich.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team traveled to the upper peninsula of Michigan to open the 2010-11 season with Finlandia University. The Golden Eagles shot 53% in the first half and followed that up with a 60% shooting performance in the second half to take a commanding 106-48 victory.

UMC's Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr., Northfield, Minn.) led all players in the contest with 22 points. She shot 80% (8-10) from the field and was perfect from long range (2-2) and at the free-throw line (4-4). Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So., Rosemount, Minn.) tied a career-high with 10 points, set a career-high with four blocked shots and led all players with 11 rebounds (6 offensive, 5 defensive). Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So., Albertville, Minn.) dished a game-high five assists and added 16 points.

The Lions were led by Janele Linna who finished with 18 points on 8-14 shooting. Shaikiera Armstrong and Linzy Monticello tied for a team-high with seven rebounds each while Brooke Arnold block two shots for Finlandia

Minnesota, Crookston advances to 1-0 on the season while Finlandia falls to 0-1 overall. The Golden Eagles return to the court on Friday, November 19 when they travel to Mayville State University in Mayville, N.D. for another non-conference contest. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
