(Crookston, Minn.)- Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) saw their bench players outscore the University of Minnesota, Crookston's reserves by a 29-4 margin and outscore the Golden Eagles by ten points overall in the second half on their way to a 72-62 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's Basketball victory tonight in Marshall, Minn.
Despite holding just a slim four-point lead (41-37) at the half, SMSU took control in the second half shooting 59.3% (16-27) and ballooning their lead to as many as 16 points with just under three minutes remaining in the game before taking the 72-62 victory.
The Mustangs had two players reach double figures. Scott Roehl scored a game-high 20 points (10-14 from the field) and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Jordan Miller scored 11 points (2-6 from the field) with five rebounds and seven assists.
Adam Hendricks (Sr, F, Watertown, Minn.) led U of M, Crookston with 18 points (8-10 from the field). Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) added 16 points (6-10 from the field) while Jacolby Anderson (Jr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) added 12 points (7-7 from the free-throw line). Almir Krdzalic (So, G, Sioux Falls, S.D.) dished out six assists.
SMSU snaps a four-game losing streak and improves to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 5-5 overall and 1-5 in the NSIC.
U of M, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Tuesday, January 4 when they travel to Mankato, Minn. to face Minnesota State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston is an NCAA Division II Institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Golden Eagle Equestrian team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).
