Golden Eagle Win Streak Moves to Three Games with 84-59 Victory Over St. Cloud State

Thumbnail image for Zabel_Bri10.jpg(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston hosted St. Cloud State University tonight in NSIC women's basketball. The game saw large runs by both teams and turnovers.  Both teams committed a combined 41 turnovers over the course of the game.  The Huskies started the first half with a 13-0 run. The Golden Eagles then went on a 23-5 run to take the lead for the first time with 7:02 remaining in the half. UMC went into the second half with a 32-24 lead. The Golden Eagles went on a 39-8 run from the start of the second half to 5:48 remaining in the game, creating a deficit too large for the Huskies to overcome. UMC won tonight's contest 84-59 and advanced the team's NSIC winning streak to three games.
 
Bri Zabel (F, 5-10, JR, Northfield, MN) led UMC with her second double-double of the season. She tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds in 36 minutes of play. Zabel was red-hot from the field knocking down four three-pointers and going 6-6 from the free-throw line. Megan Eul (F, 5-10, JR, Rosemount, MN), Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, MN), and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, SO, Albertville, MN) followed Zabel with 17 points each. Zelinsky also dished a game-high four assists and blocked a career-high four shots. The Golden Eagles shot 48% in the first half and 59.3% in the second half ending the game with a 53.8% average. UMC led in the second half by as many as 29 points.
 
Leading the Huskies was Sam Price with 14 points. Talisha Barlow contributed 13 points and five rebounds. Rachael Moen and Nicole Anderson both ended with five rebounds. The Huskies shot 36.5% from the field.
 
The University of Minnesota, Crookston advances to 8-8 overall and 5-7 in conference play. St. Cloud State falls to 8-8 overall and 5-7 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court on Saturday, January 22 to host Concordia- St. Paul. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
