(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball returns to Lysaker Gymnasium this Friday and Saturday to host St. Cloud State and Concordia- St. Paul. The Golden Eagles look to ride a weekend sweep over Winona State and Upper Iowa into this weekend. UMC plays St. Cloud State on Friday with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. The team returns to the court on Saturday to play Concordia- St. Paul at 4 p.m.
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON - (7-8, 4-7 NSIC) The Golden Eagle earned an NSIC sweep this weekend with victories over Winona State and Upper Iowa. Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) led all players on Friday night with 21 points. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) led the squad on Saturday night against the Peacocks with 21 points as well. Zabel led all players on the weekend with 18.5 points/game. She was 11-21 from the field, 4-8 from long range and 11-16 from the free-throw line. She averaged 4.5 rebounds/game and dished four assists. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Eul and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So., Albertville, Minn.) followed Zabel with 17, 14.5 and 13 points/game respectively.
ST. CLOUD STATE- (8-7, 5-6 NSIC) St. Cloud State earned a weekend split and finished a four-game home stand with a 2-2 record. The Huskies defeated Bemidji State 70-51 on Friday and fell to Minnesota Duluth 72-47 on Saturday. Nicole Anderson (So. G., Cannon Falls, Minn.) recorded the first double double of her collegiate career on Friday night with a 12 point, ten steal performance. The ten steals tied the single game school record held by Dawn Anderson (1982) and Katie Tacheny (2008). Anderson's previous career high was seven which she recorded twice during the 2009-10 season. Talisha Barlow (Sr., G, Little Canada, Minn.) played in her 100th career game on Friday night. She has played in every game, 101 straight of her collegiate career. She has started in 96, including 92 straight since Dec. 16, 2007. Barlow scored in double figures in every game of the home stand and averaged 14.0 points per game.
CONCORDIA- ST. PAUL- (7-8, 6-5 NSIC) Jineen Williams (G, 5-9, Sr., Racine, Wis. / Case HS / UW-Milwaukee) had another solid weekend for the Golden Bears as she averaged 19.5 points in two games. On Friday she was 8-11 from the field with one three. Her shooting percentage was .727 for the night and she hit both her free throw attempts as well. She had two assists and three steals as well in just 20 minutes of game play. On Saturday afternoon she went for 20 points and 7 rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. She was 5-7 from the foul line and added one assist, one block and two steals. On the weekend she was .556 from the field and .400 from behind the arc as Cu extended their winning streak to four and are now 6-5 in NSIC play. The Golden Bears went 2-0 on the weekend with wins over Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State by an average of 22 points, they have now won four straight games in league play and all by at least 15 points. On Friday night CU scored 79 points fourth highest amount on the season. In the game Concordia had 17 assists and six blocks which tied a season high. The 50 points scored by UMD were the lowest amount scored against CU all season long, the Golden Bears did allow a single three point basket all game long. The Bulldogs only made 18 field goals in the rout, a tying a season low for any CU opponent. Concordia used a 43-12 run in the middle of the game to bust the game open. Runs were also key in the game against Bemidji State as they used a 14-4 run and 13-4 run the first half to get control against the Beavers. The Golden Bears scored 85 points in the win, the most in a victory all season long. CU got double digit scoring from Maurika Hickman, Jineen Williams and Rachel Hansen. Williams averaged 19.5 points on the weekend and Hickman averaged 17.5.
