Megan Eul Leads Golden Eagles in Upset of Winona State

Thumbnail image for Eul_Megan10.JPG(Winona, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team traveled to Winona State University tonight to take on the second ranked team in the NSIC in the Warriors. Winona State took a six point lead at the 18 minute mark of the first half but it was short lived as UMC took the lead at the 10:50 mark on a Carly Rothstein (F, 5-10, Fr, St. Michael, Minn.) three-pointer and the Golden Eagles went on to take the upset victory 82-72.

Leading the Golden Eagles today was Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) who tallied a game-high and the second highest point total of her career with 21 points. She was 5-7 from the field and an outstanding 10-11 from the free-throw line. She grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and pulled down a game-tying three offensive boards. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) knocked down 17 points and dished a game-high five assists. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) followed Zelinsky with 16 points on 6-11 shooting with a team-high three three-pointers.

Winona State was led by Abby Busch who scored 20 points. She was 6-10 from the field and 8-10 from the free-throw line. Busch was followed by Natalie Gigler who scored 16 points and Michelle McDonald who scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston advances to 6-8 overall and 3-7 in the NSIC. Winona State falls to 11-3 overall and 7-3 in conference play. The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow when they play Upper Iowa University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
