Golden Eagle Women's Basketball Hits the Road to Play Winona State and Upper Iowa

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball hits the road this Friday and Saturday in one of the team's longest road trips of the season. The Golden Eagles will play Winona State on Friday, January 14 at 6 p.m. and then play Upper Iowa on Saturday, January 15 at 6 p.m. Live stats and video for both games are available at www.goldeneaglesports.com.  
 
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON - (5-8, 2-7 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team played host to Northern State and Mary last weekend in an NSIC double-header. Minnesota, Crookston was led offensively by Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) who averaged 13 points/game. She was an outstanding 19-19 from the free-throw line and dished a team-high four assists. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led all UMC players with 5.5 rebounds/game and added 11 points/game on the weekend. Freshman Carly Rothstein (F, 5-10, Fr, St. Michael, Minn.) had a solid weekend as she averaged 10 points/game and went 5-7 from long range and 5-6 from the free-throw line.
 
WINONA STATE- (11-2, 7-2 NSIC) Michelle McDonald (F, 6-0, Jr., Johnsburg, Ill. / Johnsburg HS) averaged 10 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games for Winona State this weekend. McDonald scored 11 points and had four rebounds against Concordia-St. Paul and scored nine points with nine rebounds in a win over St. Cloud State.
 
UPPER IOWA- (1-12, 1-8 NSIC) Jeri Jacobson and Cassandra Deiters led the Peacocks in scoring in two losses over the weekend. Jacobson averaged 12.5, while Deiters netted 10.5. The pair combined to hit 19 of their 32 attempts (59%) from the field. Heidi McKean led the UIU effort on the glass with 12 boards in two games, while Jen Herrick averaged 3 assists a game. Beyond Jacobson and Deiters, Upper Iowa struggled shooting the ball hitting only 36% of their field goals and 20% of their three-point attempts. Upper Iowa only averaged 22 points in the first half over the weekend, but found their stride in the second half averaging 34.5 points.
