Mary Nails 18 Three-Pointers in Victory over Golden Eagles

The Marauders shot 60.7% from the field in the first half and led by as many as 27 points. The Golden Eagles put together a 22-10 run late in the half to cut the lead to 48-33. Mary picked up where they left off shooting 59% from the field and adding 11 more three-pointers in the second session to finish with 18 total from long range. The Marauders led by as many as 46 in the second half and went on to take the win by a final of 111-72.
 
Leading the Golden Eagles today was Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) who earned a team-high 19 points with 14 of them coming from the free-throw line as she went 14-14 from the stripe. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So., Albertville, Minn.) followed Zabel with 14 and 10 points respectively. Zelinsky also tied a team-high with five rebounds. The Golden Eagles shot well from the free-throw line going 13-13 in the first half and finishing with an 82.9% average for the game.

Mary was led by Shaunna Knife and Kayla Schmidt who scored 17 points each. Knife was 7-10 from the field and 3-5 from long range and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Schmidt was 5-8 from the field, all coming from beyond the arc. The Marauders shot 59.7% from the field in the game and were assisted by 52 bench points.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston moves to 5-8 overall and 2-7 in the NSIC. Mary advances to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play. The Golden Eagles are back on the road next weekend as the team travels to Winona State and Upper Iowa. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday night.
